Marketed under the Senova name in China, the D20 draws similarities with the first generation Mercedes-Benz B-class externally, no doubt thanks to its partnership with the three-pointed star, and, according to BAIC, rides on the same platform as the Smart ForFour.

Initially, the D20 range will consist of five models with a choice of two trim levels, two petrol engines and either a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic gearbox.

Starting the line-up off, the hatch only Comfort can be had with a 1.3-litre mill developing 75 kW and 128 Nm of torque, or a bigger 1.5 with 85 kW and 148 Nm. Mated to the manual gearbox only, standard equipment includes dual front airbags, rain sense wipers on the 1.5, auto-on headlights, electric windows, rear parking sensors, leather trimmed steering wheel and ABS with EBD.

At the top of the range, the bigger engine Fashion offers a choice between hatch or sedan bodystyles, although the latter comes fitted with the self-shifter as standard. Building on the Comfort's equipment levels, the Fashion adds a six-speaker sound system, 6.5-inch touchscreen display with satellite navigation and USB, sunroof, climate control, heated and folding mirrors and daytime-running lights.

A five year / 120 000 km warranty is standard on all models with a service plan optional.
