Aimed at the recently unveiled Ferrari F8 Tributo and McLaren 720 S, the Vanquish departs from its predecessors by adopting a mid-engine layout as confirmed in July last year by Chief Creative Designer, Marek Reichman, with weight, packaging and aerodynamic efficiency having played the biggest roles.
“The Vanquish Vision Concept marks another pivotal moment in Aston Martin's history, and another critical step in delivering the Second Century Plan. Our first series production rear mid-engined supercar will be a transformational moment for the brand, for it is the car that will propel Aston Martin into a sector of the market traditionally seen as the heartland of luxury sports cars,” Aston Martin Lagonda President and Group CEO, Andy Palmer, said in a statement.
Despite keeping most of the details a secret, Aston has confirmed that the Vanquish Vision will come powered by an all-new turbocharged hybrid V6 engine and feature a bonded aluminium chassis as opposed to the carbon fibre monocoque used by the Valkyrie.
“Creating a car like this for Aston Martin is a challenge. Although it takes Aston Martin into new territory, it does so with the benefit of hard-won knowledge, ground-breaking ideas and an uncompromising mindset. The full engineering story of this car is yet to be told, but what you see here should tell you this car will not only compete at the highest level, but it will do so in a manner and style unique to Aston Martin,” Aston Martin Chief Technical Officer, Max Szwaj, said.
An expected production date has however not been announced.
