GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - A small group of youngsters from the Kwanokutula community in Riversdale, known as the Spiritual Dance Group, last week performed various dance routines to members of the Health Education Committee of the Garden Route District Municipality (GRDM).
Rebecca Johnson of the Suikerbossie Soup Kitchen, who choreographed the dances, had invited the committee to witness several of their performances. The dance routines revolved around illegal dumping, hand washing, looking after your environment and self-love.
The children gave a sterling performance, cheered on by their parents who are in full support of the initiative. The committee members also joined in the dancing.
Health and Education Committee chairperson Jessica Erasmus said it is not often that they find a passionate young group of children pouring their hearts out in dance, especially a dance to promote a cleaner environment.
"With young children taking a stance like this, we need to show our support for them as young ambassadors in the community. We will continue to support initiatives like these and hope to have more youth groups cross our paths to fight for a cleaner environment together and to eradicate illegal dumping as a team."
The GRDM Health Education Committee, which consists of environmental health practitioners (EHPs), was recently established to address the municipal health education needs of the community by improving the municipality's health education.
The GRDM is also standardising and streamlining its health education materials and increasing public awareness about municipal health services.
The committee members were not shy to show their steps along with the youngsters.
Members of the Education Committee join in the dancing.
Everybody had a lovely time at the youth group's dancing show.
