GEORGE NEWS - Four young pianists from George, Jaden van Heerden (17), Ludolph Pedro (18), Samuel Leggatt (18) and Jesse van Heerden (16), were invited to participate in the Unisa SA Music Scholarship Competition in Pretoria from 12 to 14 October, where they performed their Grade 8 piano repertoire in the Dr Miriam Makeba Concert Hall at the Unisa Muckleneuk Campus.
Jaden van Heerden participated in the category for developing artists and was awarded a bursary as one of the top two contestants in this category.
The three gentlemen competed against the top young musicians of South Africa. The overall winner was a second-year university flautist.
It was a very enriching experience for all the participants and they are to be congratulated on their outstanding perfor-mances at this event.
The four, all of them learners at York High School, started their piano lessons at Holy Cross Primary School many years ago.
They have since developed their talents with the help of Greta Benadé (Ludolph and Samuel) and Margriet Venter (Jaden and Jesse).
