GEORGE NEWS - New Dawn Park Primary School, in collaboration with Pacaltsdorp Community Business Association, hosted a Women's Day event in the school hall on 13 August.
The purpose of the event was to spoil the Grade 4 to 7 girls and their mothers were treated to a day filled with delicious treats and interactive activities presented by a special list of strong, powerful women within the community.
The guest speakers' focus was to motivate women, take stories from their own lives that are relatable and give advice or ideas on how to start a small business from almost anything.
All they require is the willpower and motivation to rise through their circumstances as the unemployment rate is high in the community.
Among the list of guest speakers for the day was Jonel Kerspuy, who presented an interactive, empowering talk and did a beautiful spiritual dance for our ladies; Megan Cunningham, who spoke on forms of abuse and how to overcome it; Melonique Morris who spoke on starting a business - this topic was also touched on by Luwayda Trantraal of Pacaltsdorp Community Business Association; and Mary-Anne Witbooi who spoke on how to plant seeds and grow vegetables.
According to the organisers, the Woman's Day event was a huge success.
New Dawn Park Primary School and Pacaltsdorp Community Business Association would like to thank the people who made the day possible: Jessica van Wyk, Yolande Jordaan, Katlego Bobide, Soul Foods, Charlotte Clark, MTDJ Projects, Juba Fruits, Wonder Foods, LG Maintenance and Construction, George Municipality and Social Development.
