Update
GEORGE NEWS - The wildfire is still under control but has slowly moved toward several trigger points.
With the fireline now closer to infrastructure it was important to establish a Unified Command to manage the different challenges posed.
This includes GRDM, George Municipality, CapeNature, Southern Cape Fire Protection Association (including member landowners) and Working on Fire.
The hot temperatures and inconsistent windy conditions have caused the fireline to form a continuous line of approximately 2 km.
Crews will continue work at accessible areas and prioritise structure protection.
A reconnaissance flight will be undertaken at 05:45 tomorrow morning to confirm which high risk areas might need aerial fire suppression.
No lives lost or damage to infrastructure recorded to date.
Roleplayers include GRDM, Cape Nature, WoF, SCFPA and local landowners.
GRDM Emergency Call Centre: 044 805 5071.
