GEORGE NEWS - Wild Mongoo, the George-based ministry aimed at the upliftment of local marginalised women, reports that since the beginning of 2024, 37 women in need have approached them for help.
Of these, 50% are ladies who work on the street.
"They are begging us for work or to learn new skills," says Annalie Cable, who leads the team at the Wild Mongoo studio.
"We are doing our best to help these ladies, but we urgently need funds to enable us to do this."
Cable has sent out an appeal to the public for help. "We have a well-established skills development programme where we empower vulnerable women," she says.
They receive skills training, jobs are created for them and they also receive emotional and spiritual support while they work in a fun and dynamic work environment.
1 000 women
Wild Mongoo is the brainchild of Lindsay Hogan who dreams of empowering 1 000 women.
"We encourage the building of friendships and trust relationships and an environment in which the ladies feel nurtured and are treated with dignity," Hogan says.
The products they manufacture are sold in the Wild Mongoo gift shop in York Street (next to Fat Fish Restaurant), as well as through their online shop at wildmongoo.co.za.
"We kindly request people who really want to help make a difference in George, to please contact me or come and visit our gift shop," said Hogan.
