GEORGE NEWS - A fundraising concert for Carpe Diem special needs school with the Neuer Kammerchor Heidenheim from Germany and George Male Choir on Thursday 23 May in George promises to be a wonderful evening of song and enjoyment.
Carpe Diem principal Elzeth Grobler is very excited about this initiative from the community.
Funds will go towards repairing two classrooms that suffered extensive damage during a fire at the school on 6 February.
Grobler says since the fire broke out, the school has been overwhelmed with the love, support and special donations that they have received from the surrounding community members and towns, fellow schools, businesses and the Western Cape Education Department district officials.
The Neuer Kammerchor Heidenheim is under the direction of Thomas Kammel. It has grown since its inception in 2005 to almost 70 young singers today. They perform about 30 times a year.
The evergreen George Male Choir, established in 1982 and now under the baton of Chrisna du Preez, is continuing to grow from strength to strength.
With three overseas trips, a performance in the Royal Albert Hall and a fifth place in the 2007 International Male Choir Festival in Cornwall, England, it has been wooing audiences across all genres and languages.
"These amazing choirs from two continents will be dedicating their time and talent for free to make melodies in our hearts that will leave memories that will be remembered forever," says Grobler.
The concert will be held at Carpe Diem School and will start at 18:30.
Tickets are R100 per person and can be obtained from Carpe Diem on 044 874 4074.
In the words of the Neuer Kammerchör Heidenheim motto: If you want to go fast, go alone; if you want to go far, go together.
