GEORGE NEWS - The Fire Department continues to extinguish the fire at the landfill site using a bulldozer, excavator, and tanker engines. Great advancement was made in some areas of the fire area since yesterday. The fire still continues on the dangerous edge.
The Fire Department has been monitoring the situation through the night last night. The firefighting team will continue to monitor the situation tonight and resume tomorrow (Saturday).
The firefighters are also attending to other smaller veld fires in Pacaltsdorp and Syferfontein areas.
The Municipality is allowing all vehicles on the landfill. There is an arrangement for designated areas where green waste, builders’ rubble, mixed waste, and wood can be offloaded.
