GEORGE NEWS - U3A meetings will be starting again, more than a year after the Covid pandemic made it impossible for members to get together.
The Outeniqua Shell Hole or Moth Hall in Rijk Tulbach Street, Loerie Park, is the new meeting place.
The first meeting will be on Wednesday 14 April when Hugo Leggatt will talk on his 2005 trip to the northern region of Ethiopia, the historic heartland. This meeting will start at 10:30. (The date of this meeting was changed from Tuesday 13 April to Wednesday 14 April. Please note the starting time.)
On Friday 23 April, Prof Maureen Coetzee will deliver a lecture titled "Malaria - then and now". Coetzee is the winner of the Distinguished Woman Scientist of the Year award of the Department of Science and Technology and also sits on one of the committees for the World Health Organisation (WHO). This lecture will start at 10:30 at the Moth Hall in Rijk Tulbach Street.
On Monday 26 April, Case Rijsdijk will reflect on a year of international affairs. This will start at 14:00 at the Moth Hall.
At the general meeting in the Moth Hall on Wednesday 28 April, at 10:00, Div de Villiers will speak on "The path of energy independence".
De Villiers is the managing director of Allsolar South Africa (Pty) Ltd and has years of experience in the renewable energy field and of living off the grid. This promises to be a fascinating lecture. As seating is limited due to Covid-19 restrictions, members are asked to come early and wear their face masks.
