GEORGE NEWS - The Janse van Rensburgs are both excited and slightly nervous about going home with three baby boys. If all goes according to plan, Kristoff, Kian and Jonan will be sleeping at home within the next two weeks.
The triplets were conceived through in-vitro fertilisation which prepared Cobus and Leana Janse van Rensburg for maximum two babies. "But then the one egg cell split, so we were blessed with identical twins and another brother," said Cobus.
The couple have a daughter, Netanya (9) and a son, Benjamin (4) who had only seen their sibs once since their birth on 17 March. "They can't wait to have them at home," said Cobus.
The triplets were born on 30 weeks (10 weeks premature) through a cesarean birth and had to spend their first seven weeks at Mediclinic George's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, where they are still currently nurtured.
Strict rules have to be adhered and therefore their siblings haven't had the chance to bond with the new arrivals. Leana's parents, who stay in Jeffrey's Bay, will come and assist at home once the babies are discharged from hospital.
Asked about Cobus and Leana's sleep depravation, Cobus said his wife Leana, who is a state veterinarian by profession, stays at the hospital throughout the day, since the babies need to feed every three hours. They are on breast milk. "It has been tough going to and from the hospital, so we are looking forward to take them home," said Cobus, a teacher at Gracehill College.
Cobus and Leana Janse van Rensburg received a triple blessing when their family grew from four to seven on Sunday 17 March, when Leana gave birth to triplets, Kristoff, Kian (identical twins) and Jonan.
