GEORGE NEWS - A tip-off from the community led to the arrest of a suspect (47) on a charge of illegal possession of drugs in Beach Road, Pacaltsdorp on Sunday 7 August.
The suspect was in possession of a substantial amount of tik and Mandrax. He was scheduled to make his first court appearance in the George Magistrate’s Court on Monday 8 August.
The outcome of his appearance is yet to be confirmed.
According to Southern Cape police spokesperson Sgt Chris Spies, members of the police did a stake-out after receiving a tip-off from informers.
The well-known drug peddler was operating in the Vleie in Beach Road when he was spotted exiting a house in the area at approximately 16:20. He was carrying a backpack.
“Members were in pursuit of the suspect when he disappeared into an empty shack. They ensued with a search and found the backpack hidden inside the shack. Upon further inspection of the backpack, they found a total of 16 halves and 202 whole Mandrax tablets as well as 15g of tik that were concealed inside the lining of the backpack,” said Spies.
The drugs were confiscated as evidence and the suspect was arrested on the spot.
