GEORGE NEWS - On Friday 22 April, the Rundle College preparatory children celebrated Earth Day by wearing clothing items to school made from recycled materials. The children put a lot of effort and hard work into making their outfits and the teachers were really pleased with the outcome.
As Earth Day promotes international awareness of environmental protection and earth conservation, the teachers took this opportunity to emphasise the importance of reducing, reusing and recycling.
Earth Day is celebrated each year on 22 April by more than a billion people in over 190 countries across the world. The day was first celebrated in 1970, so this year marks the 52nd anniversary.
Rundle College has implemented recycle bins in each classroom to recycle paper. In future they would like to raise money towards a more sustainable environment and play their part in looking after our precious planet.
Waldo Kaselowski and Angelique Kruger with their prizes for second place.
Aidan van Niekerk, a Grade 3 learner at Rundle College, was the winner. Aidan's outfit would make captain Jack Sparrow green with envy.
