GEORGE NEWS - A valued resident of New Dawn Park, Marie Esau (79), affectionately known as Tannie Marie, passed away recently after a short illness.
Tannie Marie had been running a thriving soup kitchen from the privacy of her home in Ward 16, New Dawn Park.
Her soup kitchen fed between 90 and 120 children on a daily basis. She started running the soup kitchen from her own pocket in 2003 up until it received support, in the form of food and electricity, from George Municipality in 2004.
According to DA Constituency Head of George, Mimmy Gondwe, Tannie Marie was an active member of the party who served her community for many years.
“The DA extends its sincerest condolences to the family, children and friends of Tannie Marie, as well as the community of New Dawn Park, and wishes them all strength during this difficult time,” said Gondwe. “The people and children of New Dawn Park have truly lost a valued, respected and caring member of the community. May her soul rest in heavenly peace.”
