GEORGE NEWS - The situation in Thembalethu remains tense with sporadic flare-ups in the area.
22 People have been arrested for public violence.
Police and law enforcement are maintaining a high police presence in the area to ensure the public's safety.
Captain Malcolm Pojie, the Southern Cape police spokesperson, says they will stay in the area to monitor the situation.
Pojie also confirmed that photos of a man burning in Thembalethu during the protest, are fake. The photos are being circulated on social media.
The N2 between the Garden Route Mall offramp and the Pacaltsdorp offramp is still closed for traffic.
Nelson Mandela Boulevard is open for traffic.
