GEORGE NEWS & VIDEO - Reckless and negligent driving, seems to be the cause of a taxi accident that resulted in the popular Fat Fish restaurant in York Street, closing their doors for three days this week.
This follows after the taxi that was taking 15 staff members of the restaurant home on Tuesday evening 3 January, collided with another taxi at the crossing between Cathedral and Merriman streets in the CBD.
According to Fat Fish owner Simon Ash, the accident happened after his staff finished their evening shift and were transported home when the driver of the taxi they were traveling down Cathedral Street allegedly neglected to to stop at the four-way stop. The other taxi, traveling down Merriman Street, allegedly did the same and the vehicles collided with each other.
"Many of our staff, mainly our kitchen staff, were injured and a few were taken to hospital. They sustained mainly bone fractures and bruises. Two are still in hospital recovering from pelvic injuries," Ash said this morning, Thursday 5 January.
As a result the restaurant has been unable to operate since Wednesday morning. "We will assess the situation and will re-open with limited staff on Friday evening," said Ash.
"I'm grateful that there weren't any fatalities and I thank the emergency services who responded to the scene so quickly, as well as the community for their support and well wishes. It could've been so much worse. Please keep our team in your thoughts and prayers as they recover from this traumatic event. Sending much love to all who were involved," said Ash.
