GEORGE NEWS - Mediclinic George manager Kassie Karstens this morning, 24 March, confirmed that no Covid-19 cases have to date been admitted to the hospital for treatment.
"We have contingency plans in place to treat patients. As numbers increase, new areas are identified. For now we will halt all selective surgery from Friday 27 March and do emergency surgeries only."
He did not comment on steps Mediclinic is taking to get additional staff, should it become necessary.
In a statement yesterday, he said in order to better manage visitor volumes, access to the hospital can only be reached through the entrance on the ground floor parking deck off Gloucester Avenue.
"Mediclinic would like to emphasise that everyone within the healthcare sector is working together to fight the pandemic. We encourage communities to adhere to the social distancing efforts and to observe all measures put in place within the hospital to ensure the safety of our patients," said Karstens.
Comment from the George Hospital is being awaited regarding any cases that may have been hospitalised there. Information will follow as it becomes available.
