GEORGE NEWS - Heather Park Neighbourhood Watch (HPNW) received a donation from the George Municipality on Tuesday 25 July towards securing their sector.
Deputy chairman of the neighbourhood watch, Anzelle Fourie, says they are grateful for the donation which they will use for CCTV cameras.
In October 2014, the HPNW was started under the leadership of Tinus Nortjé to ensure the safety and security of Heather Park. A group of highly efficient patrollers undertakes the daunting task of keeping the area safe.
The group of volunteers work hand in hand with the police under the leadership of a chairman and an executive committee (EC), operating within the constraints of the laws governing the functioning of neighbourhood watches.
HPNW is registered with the George Community Police Forum (CPF) sector 4. It has an approved logo, which will soon be seen affixed to homes and businesses in Heather Park. The current EC spent a great deal of time revising the constitution and code of conduct to submit an application of registration to the Department of Community Safety (DOCS) and will soon be awarded an official confirmation of registration.
Monthly meetings are held at the Outeniqua Bowling Club, for updates on criminal activities by a representative of the police. All residents of Heather Park are encouraged to attend. HPNW express their thanks to the management of the club for ongoing use of the premises for meetings.
Heather Parkers are reminded of the Annual General Meeting (AGM) to be held on Tuesday 31 October, when the new EC will be appointed. Nominations are invited, and should be submitted no later than 19 September. Residents are encouraged to be part of the proactive group who are "looking out for each other".
HPNW has a Facebook page and a Whatsapp group for reporting criminal activities, making a quick response by the police, HPNW and private security companies possible. Residents of Heather Park are invited to join the neighbourhood watch. Application forms are available on request or can be accessed via the web page at www.cpfgeorge.org/hp.
Deputy Chairman of the neighbourhood watch Anzelle Fourie said the donation will go a long way to realising the dream of having CCTV cameras on every street of Heather Park.
