GEORGE NEWS - A woman who prefers to have her name withheld, got the fright of her life when a brick came flying through her car's windscreen on Friday night, 10 February. The incident happened at about 21:00 in Knysna Road near the Mujo bar and restaurant between Glenwood House and Le Vallia.
The woman was on her way to the emergency room with her 15-month-old toddler when a brick hit the windscreen on the passenger side of the car.
"I was driving, my cousin was holding my son in the passenger seat and my eldest (4) was strapped to his chair in the back. It [the brick] came from the left side, so they obviously had to hide somewhere on that side of the road," she said.
The brick landed between her cousin's feet. No one sustained serious injuries, but according to the woman, everyone was covered in pieces of shattered glass.
"We saw absolutely nothing coming! No one running, no one looking suspicious, as if the brick fell out of the sky," she told George Herald.
"Except for the streetlights on Knysna Road, the grassy areas next to the road on Le Vallia's side and on the side of Glenwood House are really dark at night and it's impossible to see if someone is hiding there," she said.
The brick landed between the front passenger's feet.
When they arrived at the hospital, they spoke to police officers who told them that they've received previous calls about stone throwing in that area and that they do patrol regularly, but haven't found anything yet. It is believed that the culprits are naughty, bored children.
After the ordeal, members of the Conville Police Station took the woman and her children home, where they took her statement. They also escorted her cousin back to make sure everyone was safe. "They were amazing," she said.
According to Western Cape media liaison officer Captain Frederick van Wyk, a malicious damage to property case was opened at the Conville police station for investigation. "The investigation continues and no arrests have been made yet," he said.
Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to contact the Conville detectives on 044 803 3327.
