GEORGE NEWS - Mediclinic George in a statement gave the reassurance that the hospital has implemented the "necessary measures" to manage any patients presenting with symptoms of Covid-19.
The hospital said its measures are in strict accordance with the National Institute for Communicable Diseases and National Department of Health protocols. Measures are also in place to prevent the potential transmission of the virus in the hospital.
"These measures include managing access to the hospital in the best interests of our patients and healthcare workers. We believe that allowing patients access to their loved ones is an essential part of their recovery and wellness, but that it is important to reduce the risk for all," said hospital manager Kassie Karstens.
The following temporary measures with respect to visitors are implemented with immediate effect:
• Visiting hours are limited to between 15:00 and 16:00 and 19:00 and 20:00.
• Strictly no more than one visitor will be allowed per bed per visiting hour in any unit.
• Surgical patients may only have one individual as support on the day of surgery.
Entrance through Gloucester Avenue only
In order to better manage visitor volumes, access to the hospital can only be reached through the entrance on the Mediclinic George Ground Floor parking deck off Gloucester Avenue.
"Mediclinic would like to emphasise that everyone within the healthcare sector is working together to fight the pandemic. We encourage communities to adhere to the social distancing efforts and to observe all measures put in place within the hospital to ensure the safety of our patients," said Karstens.
