GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - A 30-year-old man from the Eastern Cape will appear in the Plettenberg Bay Magistrate's Court on Friday 26 January after he was arrested on the N2 with drugs worth R1m.
Sgt Chris Spies, the Southern Cape police spokesperson, said it is believed that the drugs were destined for delivery in George.
The suspect was arrested at a vehicle checkpoint at the entrance to Plettenberg Bay.
“On Friday 19 January at about 05:00 members attached to the Rural Flying Squad were strategically deployed at the checkpoint where they pulled over a Chevrolet bakkie,” Spies said.
"They noticed the driver of the vehicle behaving suspiciously and proceeded with a search. The members opened a compartment on the side of the vehicle upon which they found packets of tik stashed inside. Police confiscated 3,08kg of tik and arrested the driver. The vehicle was also seized."
The compartment in which the drugs were found.
The accused made his first court appearance on a charge of dealing in drugs on Monday. He was remanded in custody.
Spies added that the Western Cape provincial police management lauded the members for their effort to intercept the consignment. "The seizure of the consignment is in line with policing priorities to eradicate drug trafficking along entry and exit routes of the province."
