Almost 5 000 people visited to enjoy the excitement and another 1 200 hockey players participated in the school hockey tournament. People came from as far as Rietbron in the Karoo to Plettenberg Bay, Knysna and the rest of the Eden district to participate in the two days of sports, family fun and the lapa entertainment.
The event kicked off on Friday night with the 10km George Herald Night Run with the Stars which drew 620 entrants including the 3km Fun Walk with glow-in-the-dark sticks and very entertaining dressed-up children and parents. Luwayne Duitsjan won the men’s 10km race in 33:18 and Melissa van Ass won the ladies’ section in 41:48.
Saturday began with the extremely challenging Hermitage MTB Enduro Races with 254 entrants in the various distances of 3km, 10km, 20km, 40km and 60km. More than 200 people were part of the Enduro series, which is as such a record for any enduro race.
During excellent weather conditions, children were having a ball in the McDonald’s Kids Carnival where they indulged in fun activities such as parachute simulators and a giant slide etc. A total of 35 exhibitors took part in exciting interactive exhibitions and demonstrations. The celebrity ex Miss Universe, Michelle McClean, added more sparkle to the night under the stars at the fabulous and enjoyable lapa event.
