GEORGE NEWS - Coram Deo, a counselling centre that takes hands with communities to advance healing, will be holding an information evening on Wednesday 20 November at Eden Place, starting at 18:30.
Students who study through Coram Deo's programme, accredited by the University of Pretoria, do so for several reasons. Some intend to establish a counselling practice at a certain point in their lives.
Others enrol for personal development and self-care. Most do so simply because they want to be better equipped at making a difference in the lives of people around them - irrespective of their profession.
The course is an advanced programme in Pastoral Narrative Counselling. It teaches students to work with people's stories in relation to several topics including trauma, relationships, anxiety and depression, children and teenagers. In this approach, people's experiences of faith are acknowledged without being prescriptive (a method called pastoral theology).
For several years now, Coram Deo has been training people in the South Cape (George and Mossel Bay) and other places in the country. With this training, Coram Deo aims to empower people to be bringers of hope and thus make a sustainable contribution to communities and institutions in their communities.
