GEORGE NEWS - Two HTS Eden learners had the opportunity to share their views on Youth Day with a wider audience when they appeared on Eden FM's Breakfast Show on 16 June.
Urijah Mayekiso and Neave Cupido were invited to the radio station, where they spent an hour and a half discussing issues affecting young people and reflecting on the significance of Youth Day.
According to Urijah, the experience was both exciting and nerve-racking. "Neave and I were so excited that we could hardly contain ourselves," he said. Although concerned about his slight stutter, he was soon put at ease by the welcome they received from presenter Bulumko 'BK' Kula, who explained how the programme would work.

During the broadcast, the learners shared their views on the importance of Youth Day. "Youth Day is more than just a public holiday; it is a reminder of the role young people played in challenging the apartheid government," said Urijah. They also spoke about the need for today's youth to become active agents of change and to make a tangible difference in their communities.
Neave admitted she had initially expected the interview to be highly scripted, and felt nervous before going on air. However, she said the welcoming atmosphere quickly helped her relax. "The more time we spent in the studio, the more our conversation started flowing," she said.
The learners expressed their gratitude to Kula, Roger Jacobs, Moira Heneke and the Eden FM team for the opportunity. They also thanked HTS Eden principal Willmero Freeks, deputy principal Shaun Adams and teacher Veronica Sauer, as well as the school staff, for their support and encouragement.
