GEORGE NEWS - The University of the Third Age (U3A) has some interesting talks lined up for August.
In Armchair Travel on Wednesday 12 August, Derick and Barbara Ikin will give a talk about their visit to Singapore and South Korea.
They also travelled to Busan and Seoul and they will give the audience their personal impressions and experiences in a well-illustrated talk.
On Friday 21 August, Alan McVitty will discuss the future of the Outeniqua Choo-Tjoe. This very popular steam train last ran in 2006.
Severe floods damaged the railway, forcing the suspension of the service. McVitty will be joined by Martin Hatchuel who will give an illustrated history of the construction of the railway line and include some of the engineering challenges that lie ahead in getting the Choo-Tjoe up and running again.
Refreshments served at 10:00 and the talk starts at 10:30.
Growing up in the Knysna forest
The general meeting is on Wednesday 26 August where Dalena Wolmarans will give a talk titled ‘Don’t let the children get cold!’
Growing up in the Knysna forest, Dalena's father knew poverty, cold and hard work. He started a sawmill business that Dalena inherited and still runs efficiently. This talk will start at 10:30.
