GEORGE NEWS - A number of ladies and gents at George Municipality got all dressed up for Africa Day, celebrated on Thursday 25 May.
African Unity Day, also known as Africa day, is celebrated annually and commemorates the founding of the Organisation of African Unity (OAU) on this day in 1963. It is a public holiday in several countries such as Gambia, Mali, Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
Officials from different departments in the George Municipality used the opportunity to dress up and had a ball of a time.
Officials from the Economic Growth and Development department, cooked, dressed up and had a delicious African luncheon on Wednesday at the George Tourism office.
Joan Shaw, George Tourism Manager, said it was really a team bonding session and so much fun in the spirit of Ubuntu.
She said she and one of the other officials did a Tshwane song to pay homage to their North-western roots.
The main meal consisted of traditional food, including samp and beans, peri peri chicken livers, homemade chakalaka, steamed bread and a spinach dish. For dessert the group had malva pudding with custard and chocolate muffins.
To amp up the fun they held a fashion show for laughs and played their favourite local music.
