GEORGE NEWS - The seventh annual Big Balk hosted by Binah was again a great success with more than 200 participants walking in support of those living with disabilities. The walk was held on Sunday 1 December at the Garden Route Botanical Garden.
Patrons from as far as Knysna, Oudtshoorn, Mossel Bay, Glentana, Great Brak River and even Cape Town enjoyed the picture-perfect setting to show their support for National Disability Rights Awareness Month, which runs from 3 November to 3 December.
Disability is the consequence of an impairment that may be physical, cognitive, mental, sensory, emotional, developmental, or some combination of these.
The Big Walk by Binah offers an opportunity for all of us to remove these barriers and to improve the quality of life of people with disabilities through concrete action.
Funds raised during this campaign will again be utilised to empower the special-needs community of George by means of information and training.
The organisers of the campaign, from the non-profit organisation Binah and the tutoring centre for special needs children Legacy Centre, are grateful for the positive response and support they received from the community.
Each year it is an overwhelming experience to witness the true sense of community while families share their experiences with one another.
The eighth annual Big Walk by Binah will take place on 30 November 2025 at the Garden Route Botanical Garden.
