GEORGE NEWS - The second dry run for the roll-out of the Go George bus service to Thembalethu was supposed to take place on Monday morning 14 November.
According to reliable sources, the dry run was yet again cancelled at the last minute as Go George bus drivers refused to drive into Thembalethu.
Last month, George Mayor Leon van Wyk announced that the roll-out would take place in November.
Sources told George Herald that some of the bus drivers own taxis themselves, while other drivers fear attacks by those opposed to the roll-out. It is well known that Uncedo in George was very unhappy with the announcement of the roll-out for November, while negotiations with the province are still ongoing.
Questions in this regard were sent to George Municipality.
The municipal feedback is as follows: "Go George is actively working, together with all key stakeholders, on all aspects of the roll-out for Phase 4, Thembalethu and is expecting a successful roll-out of the long-awaited service to residents.
"Further official announcements will follow in due course."
