GARDEN ROUTE | KAROO NEWS - The continuation of Operation Vhuthu Hawe that kicked off on 25 June, saw a total of R250 000 worth of drugs, as well as ammunition, confiscated by police in the Southern Cape on Thursday 1 July.
According to Southern Cape police spokesperson, Sgt Chris Spies, an intelligence-driven operation by the Eden Cluster Crime intelligence and combatting team took police to a house in Willie Schaap street in Lawaaikamp, George at about 15:30.
“Upon searching the premises the members found 61 bankies of tik and the police arrested a 65-year-old woman on a charge of possession of tik,” said Spies.
They then proceeded to Uniondale where they conducted a sting operation at a house at Haarlem. “An extensive search of the premises yielded positive results when 25,2kg of dagga and six grams of tik with an accumulative estimated street value of R252 900 were found,” said Spies. A 33-year-old man was arrested on a charge of dealing in drugs.
On the same day at approximately 16:20, Thembalethu police who were on patrol in the area, clamped down on a house in Bob Street, acting on information from the public. “Three rounds of ammunition, small quantities of dagga and two laptops were found inside the house. Police arrested a 42-year-old man on charges of unlawful possession of ammunition and possession of suspected stolen property,” said Spies.
Acting Eden Cluster Commander, Brigadier Phumzile Cetyana, praised the members of the force who conducted the operations. “These operations would be maintained throughout the weekend to ensure that the public are and feel safe,” he said.
All arrested will appear in court once charged.
