The school had its humble beginnings in 1963 as 'Die Eiland' Preparatory School with a single Grade 1 class. The following year a Grade 2 class was added, followed by the Grade 3s the next year.
The staff complement increased to serve the three classes. In 1984, Denneoord Primary School was established and its status as preparatory school was changed to a fully-fledged primary school. Neighbouring land was acquired and sports fields were developed. In 2004, adapting to the changes experienced in education in the country, Denneoord became a parallel-medium school.
With hard work and dedication, numerous projects were undertaken over the years to raise finance to build the Tinie Gericke Hall.
At the end of March 2014, the deputy principal Helgard van der Watt will be retiring, while his wife Marlene as well as Marlene Stander will retire at the end of this year.
Headmaster, Tinie Gericke, thanked everyone for the contributions that they have made to the school over the past 50 years. "Now we must strive to make the next 50 years as exciting as the past," he said.
