Two other suspects who are connected to the robbery, which took place in the Wilderness area more than two weeks ago, are still at large, said Captain Bernadine Steyn, Southern Cape Police spokesperson. The case was postponed until 30 March and Quamana will remain in custody until then.
Quamana was arrested on 15 February at about 21:10, after his bakkie was stopped on the Saasveld Road by members of the police.
During the robbery, three men entered the shop and demanded cash.
"The complainant's brother was hit in his face with a firearm and the suspects took several items including electrical equipment, cellular phones, a cash register, cash, a computer and cigarettes," said Steyn.
"The suspects fled the scene and shots were fired as they were leaving the scene. Nobody sustained any injuries due to the shots that were fired."
l Quamana was not linked to a case of burg-lary that occurred last year between 6 and 7 June at the DA office in Doneraille Square. The DA was informed of Quamana's imprisonment by a close friend. Quamana started his employment as a professional staff member of the DA on 1 October 2012.
According to Peter Helfrich, regional constituency coordinator for this region, the DA is in the process of terminating his employment with them. "Due to his incarceration at the George Correctional Centre he is unable to perform his duties at the Democratic Alliance," he said. When asked about Quamana's misdemeanours, Helfrich answered that he is only in a position to provide information regarding his relationship and employment with the DA.
"If Andile was found guilty of any charges that the DA was aware of, we would most certainly follow our internal disciplinary process and a possible outcome of this would have been dismissal," said Helfrich.
