GEORGE NEWS - The tiny tots involved in the George Herald Ordinary Magic for Madiba reading campaign, will soon enjoy listening to stories in a cool, colourful environment created by George Herald's own team of artists.
Liandra Clasquin, Stephen Swigelaar and Diettmar Giewelaar proved that their artistic talents stretch much further than graphic design as they painted striking murals inside the reading centre at the Uniting Reformed Church in Thembalethu.
The artists chose the popular Cool Catz from e.tv as their theme and also slipped in Pooh Bear and some of his mates to keep the cats in line.
Apart from providing books and painting murals, George Herald staff members are kitting out the bungalow with shelving, curtains, carpets and cushions.
Staff members are also involved in the reading sessions and together with church members recently received training from early childhood development expert Werna Pretorius.
The campaign still needs companies or individuals to sponsor the weekly meals for about thirty children on a once off or rotation basis.
The aim is to provide each child with a healthy sandwich, a fruit and a juice before the reading session starts.
The sandwiches can be made at the centre by the older caretaker kids if the sandwich ingredients are supplied.
