GEORGE NEWS - A 20-year-old man from Conville is scheduled to appear in the George Magistrate’s Court today, Monday 14 June, after he was found in possession of a suspected illegal firearm and ammunition on Saturday.
According to Southern Cape police spokesperson, Capt Malcolm Pojie, police obtained a search warrant based on a tip-off from the community, and pounced on the residence of the suspect in Kapokblom Street, Le Vallia.
“Members ensued with a search of the premises and the suspect, who was carrying a black bag. The suspect however became riotous and had to be contained. Upon searching the bag they found a black and silver 9mm Kuzey pistol inside the bag as well as ammunition. The suspect was subsequently arrested and the firearm and ammunition confiscated as evidence,” said Pojie.
The firearm will be sent for ballistic tests to determine whether it may have been used during serious crimes.
The suspect faces a charge of possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition.
Eden Cluster Commander, Maj-Gen Oswald Reddy, commended the members for their vigilance and the effort to eradicate the proliferation of illegal firearms and ammunition in the Southern Cape.
Western Cape Police management also commended the members for their vigilance and commitment to rid our streets of illegal firearms.
