This is the secret of longevity revealed by the remarkable Georgian Jean Ness, who turned 100 years old last week Tuesday in remarkable good form.
Jean was cheery when the Mayor of George, Charles Standers, and his wife, Estie, dropped in along with Pastor Shawn Hunter of St Philip's Church. They added to the general bonhomie at the tea party held in her honour on Tuesday at Tuiniqua's Community Hall.
She is chirpy, still manages to walk around Tuiniqua Retirement Village with her walker and enjoys listening to music with her Dutch friend Evert Dorst, who is in the frail care unit.
A letter from her son William (who resides in England) was read at the party. In it he said he remembers his mum as a generous person who was always ready to share whatever she had with needy people.
"Mum, you survived two world wars. If you found someone who had less than us and was struggling, you would always try to give something, even if you could not afford it. Your Christmas parties in the early days at Matsheumhlope (our plot near Bulawayo) Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) could not, and probably will never, be equalled. The tables always looked ready for the arrival of the king and queen. You decorating with taste, skill and beauty. Many and sundry joined us on these balmy days."
Centenarian Jean Ness welcomed the Mayor of George, Charles Standers, and his wife Estie to her party last week.
