GEORGE NEWS - The Garden Route branch of the Botanical Society of South Africa is excited to be hosting Keith Kirsten, one of South Africa's most famous horticulturists, at an event in George on Saturday 27 July.
Kirsten will deliver a talk on sustainable gardening, a topic that is sure to interest the many avid gardeners of George and the rest of the Garden Route.
For more than 30 years, his charisma and charm have encouraged and motivated South Africans to love their gardens. Kirsten regularly visits notable gardens both locally and abroad, and is well versed in the latest trends in landscaping and garden design.
He has co-sponsored the Kirstenbosch South African exhibit at Chelsea for more than 20 years and is currently chairman of BotSoc's Kirstenbosch branch. All funds raised will be donated to the Garden Route Botanical Garden for a new thematic display featuring some of the unique plants in coastal dune strandveld / calcrete areas in the Garden Route.

The event will take place at the Environmental Education Centre in the Garden Route Botanical Garden. It starts at 10:00 and raffle tickets and refreshments will be for sale. About Keith Kirsten
In 1978 Kirsten borrowed R17 000 and founded Keith Kirsten's Nurseries and Garden Centres; in the three decades that followed he has informed, entertained and inspired gardening enthusiasts. His accolades include the IMM Marketing Award of the Year (1989), Prisa's coveted Communicator of the Year (1997) and gold at both the Stuttgart IGA show and the Chelsea Flower Show. Kirsten has also been awarded the South African Nursery Association (Sana) Gold Medal in 1990. He co-founded the Sana in 1985, as well as the Tom Arnold Bursary Fund for students, which has supported hundreds of students over the years and enabled them to qualify and study in the field of horticulture and landscaping at any tertiary institution throughout South Africa.
