Update
GEORGE NEWS & VIDEO - It was a bloody weekend on the roads in and around George with two fatalities and many more injured. One accident took place at the infamous 'Airport crossing', two on the N2 and two on the Outeniqua Pass - one involving a huge mobile crane and the other a motorbike.
Another motorbike accident happened near the Garden Route Mall on Friday afternoon.
Head on collision
A 27-year-old man died on the N2 between George near the Far Hills hotel after a head-on collision at 05:30 on Sunday 30 September near the entrance of the hotel. George police communications officer Sgt Michael Opperman said the deceased, the driver of a silver Opel Corsa, allegedly lost control of his vehicle and swerved, colliding with a black VW Polo travelling in the opposite direction from George to the Wilderness.
The driver of the VW Polo, a 20-year-old male, sustained multiple injuries and his female passenger (18) sustained injuries to her ankle. Both were taken to hospital. N2 behind the Garden Route Mall
On Sunday 30 September at approximately 10:40, George police attended to an accident on the N2 when a green Audi A4 overturned with three passengers inside.
The 43-year-old driver, who died on the scene, allegedly lost control over the vehicle and it left the road and overturned.
The male passengers (aged 41, 42 and 43) sustained slight injuries and were treated on the scene by ER 24. A case of culpable homicide was opened. Eyewitnesses reported that loud music continued to blare from the vehicle's speakers after the car landed on its roof. Airport crossing
On Sunday morning a blue Hyundai Atos with a Ceres registration number, ended up on its roof on the R102 at the now infamous George Airport crossing.
The Atos overturned after colliding with a bakkie at the intersection. The driver of the Atos sustained light injuries. The Atos carried no passengers. The occupants of the bakkie was a family, two children an an adult who escaped without injury. Eden 911 and Metro were on the scene.
Mobile crane plunges into Malgas river
Three days after a fourteen-wheeler mobile crane plunged into the Malgas river at Blanco on Sunday 30 September, recovery crews were still struggling to remove the crane from the ravine.
The truck was coming down the Outeniqua Pass just after 16:00 when a tyre burst. The 53-year-old male driver lost control on a bend at the bottom of the pass just before the Malgas river bridge. The driver jumped out of the truck when it left the road and was found by passersby on the grass verge after the accident. He sustained multiple injuries and was taken to George MediClinic. He is still in hospital.

Leighton Scheepers, who was playing in the park across the river in Blanco, said he looked up when he heard the tyre burst and saw the truck picking up speed while the brakes were screeching. George police communications officer Sgt Michael Opperman said an accident report was opened and a case of reckless or negligent driving is under investigation. Motorbike accident on pass
An eye witness reported seeing a wrecked motorbike and a rider on his haunches on the side of the road on the Outeniqua Pass on Thursday 27 September. The incident happened around 15:30, in perfect weather, on the George side of the pass. It appeared as if the motorbike rider had lost control on a corner and fell on the tarmac.
No other vehicles were involved in the incident. George police communications officer Sgt Michael Opperman said when the police arrived, the bike and rider had left the scene.
Motorbike accident near GR Mall
Two people were injured in an accident between two motorbikes near the Mall on Friday afternoon. The injured, a man and a woman, were taken to hospital - the woman with serious injuries. ER24 and Eden 911 attended to the injured.
