GEORGE NEWS - Three young children, of whom the youngest is a Grade 7 learner at Outeniqua Primary School, have had their mother ripped from their lives after she died in a horrific car accident on the N5 between Bethlehem and Lavender Hill Country Estate in the Free State on Friday 20 September.
Doré du Toit from George and her two daughters, Evané (18) and Dorijke (21), who live in Bethlehem, were getting ready for Evané's matric farewell at Lavender Hill when the accident happened.
Doré, who grew up in Bethlehem, and her youngest child, Rossouw (13), have been living in George for the last couple of years where she worked at Tyres and Treads. Judging by the amount of Facebook messages and condolences streaming in on George Herald's Facebook page, she was much loved.
Evané is the deputy head girl at Witteberg High School in Bethlehem and what should have been a highlight in her high school career, turned into an absolute nightmare when a bakkie collided with their car at about 15:00 that afternoon.
The trio were on their way back to Bethlehem for their make-up and photos after having their hair done at a salon in Lavender Hill.
A police spokesperson from Bethlehem, Captain Loraine Earle, confirmed the accident.
Four people who were travelling in the bakkie sustained minor injuries while Doré, who was found trapped in her overturned vehicle, was declared deceased on the scene.
Drice Rossouw, Doré's stepmother, says the vehicle Doré and her daughters were travelling in, was hit on the right-hand side by a bakkie towing a trailer.
Dorijke, a drama student at an academy in Centurion, initially suffered serious injuries to her pelvis and vertebrae. She is still recovering in hospital, and her condition has improved since the accident. "She is doing well and there is no need for an operation," said Drice on Wednesday.
Evané, who sustained a serious wound to her head, has since been discharged. Doré's young son, Rossouw, is doing okay under the circumstances and is with his father in Bethlehem at the moment.
According to Drice, and from what can be gathered from Facebook posts and photos, Doré's children were her life.
"She was the most beautiful woman and most wonderful mother her children could ask for. The children told me their greatest gratitude is that their mother led them all to the Lord. She served the Lord with devotion and her children followed in her footsteps," she said.
"She is at home in heaven, because her place was ready and God came to get her."
In addition to her three children and her stepmother, Doré leaves behind her father, Ben Rossouw, and her two brothers, Koos and Pienaar Rossouw.
Details surrounding her memorial service have yet to be confirmed.
