GEORGE NEWS - The B'360 Academic and Discipline Improvement project that was introduced at New Dawn Park Primary School at the beginning of this year has reached its goals, says Jade Sateria, the facilitator of the programme.
Learners who are part of the project received trophies and certificates for their achievements at the school's annual prize-giving on Tuesday 31 October. Sateria said all participating learners' academics, discipline and confidence improved.
"For instance, the head boy, Shenwin Pietersen, who is an introvert, has lost his shyness," she says.
As part of the B'360 programme, learners took part in this year's Garden Route Eisteddfod where they obtained outstanding marks. Leolin April obtained 96% for his pencil drawing in the art division and his exceptional drawings were exhibited and sold at the eisteddfod gala event.
Learners also participated in the Shakespeare Festival hosted by George Arts Theatre and in the science competition of the International Year of Basic Sciences for Sustainable Development (IYBSSD).
The B'360 dance department also participated in small cultural events in New Dawn Park hosted by the non-governmental organisation (NGO) Breathe Life.
Sateria says she has rolled out the programme on a voluntary basis. Her aim was to bring about positive change in the lives of learners. "I am proud to announce that the programme has reached all its objectives."
She thanked the George Arts Theatre, everyone from the school and the Education Department for the opportunity, and for providing insights, time and assistance towards the programme.
Iwandrio Pedro received awards for B'360 Learner Committee Member and Best Supporting Actor. He also received the Jade Sateria Award.
