Update
GEORGE NEWS - Bonginkosi Ndevu (28), the alleged shooter of provincial traffic officer Janneké Bergman (29), will appear in the George Regional Court on Tuesday 1 June. Ndevu was arrested shortly after the shooting on 7 August 2020.
Bergman was shot after she pulled over a silver Audi on the N2 near Pacaltsdorp. Ndevu, from Khayelitsha in Cape Town, was arrested when he was spotted walking along the highway. He allegedly opened fire on police and law enforcement who returned fire, wounding him.
Two firearms, one of which belonged to Bergman, and an undisclosed amount of cash was found in his possession.
He faces two charges of attempted murder as well as a charge of illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
He remains in custody as he abandoned his bail application last year.
