Gaynor Young shared her life story with the audience, touching many heart strings with her humour and courage. From time to time Gaynor hosts special evenings where she shares her life story to supplement her income.
In 1989 Gaynor had every reason to believe she had a promising career as an actress when she fell five stories during a performance of Camelot in December of that year. She broke most bones in her body and fractured her skull so severely that the doctor compared it to a cracked eggshell.
Just before tragedy struck, Gaynor went to see a fortune teller to enquire if she would ever be famous. The fortune teller confirmed that she would, but Gaynor never realised that she would be famous for all the wrong reasons.
Three months later, at just 28, she was in a coma and so severely injured that it put a sudden cruel stop to her acting dreams.
The doctors told her mother that she was paralysed and would never lead a normal life, but her mother was determined that her daughter would get back her life.
Today Gaynor does not only walk, she can even run. She has 40% eyesight and her hearing is almost perfect after a recent procedure.
Gaynor credited God and her parents for her miracle recovery and the audience at The Rose gave Gaynor a standing ovation at the end of her speech for everything she has accomplished. Gaynor also thanked the owner of The Rose, Sandra Harris for her contribution to the evening’s success.
She tells her whole story in the book My Plunge to Fame and it is available at Wordsworth in the Garden Route Mall.
