GEORGE NEWS - The electrification of 99 homes in Area 8C, Zone 6, Thembalethu has been finalised in the heart of winter as part of urgent electrification projects in the George Municipality's Upgrading of Informal Settlements Programme.
This is according to a statement issued on Wednesday 24 August, by the municipality.
"Electricians are currently busy with the pairing of the split meters for the few remaining houses to ensure all homes are switched on," said George Mayor Leon van Wyk who was on site in Zone 6.
He said Council prioritised a large portion of the 2021/22 available budget of R1,1m for the urgent electrification projects.
The cost per housing structure for electrification is approximately R20 000, which includes a prepaid meter.
Residents receive their own electrical prepaid meter, in their own name with power supply of 40 amps.
