GEORGE NEWS - The Western Cape Minister of Police Oversight and Community Safety, Anroux Marais, has welcomed the successful completion of the Law Enforcement Support (Les) Programme by 20 newly trained peace officers, alongside one trainee already contracted to the George Municipality.
The addition of these officers is set to significantly strengthen law enforcement in George. Working alongside the police and municipal law enforcement teams, they will increase visible policing, improve response times and enhance safety in local communities.
Marais highlighted the importance of collaboration between provincial government and municipalities. "By investing in properly trained peace officers, we are directly strengthening safety at a local level.
"These officers will help stabilise communities, deter criminal behaviour and reinforce public confidence in law enforcement," she said.
She also emphasised the programme's role in creating employment opportunities and supporting professional growth within the public safety sector.

"This training equips participants with recognised qualifications and opens the door to meaningful, long-term careers in community safety."
The training was delivered through the City of Cape Town's accredited Public Safety Training College, using Saseta-accredited modules, and resulted in each participant earning two Saqa-accredited certificates. The initiative was made possible through gazetted funding and close co-operation between the Western Cape Department of Police Oversight and Community Safety and the George Municipality.
