GEORGE NEWS - More than ten centuries ago, on 4 July 1054, Chinese astronomers were the first to describe a supernova, at that time the brightest light in the night-time sky.
On 4 July this year, Unisa, one of the brightest lights on the African continent, celebrated 145 years of serving as a beacon of knowledge and inspiration in Africa and globally. This milestone coincides with the celebration of Madiba's centenary as well as 100 years of Unisa as an examining university.
Participants had to send a message of no longer than 145 words to younisa@unisa.ac.za in which they had to describe how Unisa has served as a beacon in their lives.
Charlton Bowkers, one of our South Cape TVET College/Unisa students, was one of the winners. He won a set of earphones for his inspiring article. He is currently registered as a first year B Ed Foundation Phase student at Unisa.
