GEORGE NEWS - The Fancourt Knitting Drive started five years ago in response to a need for knee blankets for the elderly in their community.
The organisers say the concept has changed slightly and for the past three years they have been knitting scarves for the children of the crèches under the umbrella of George Child and Family Welfare.
According to the organisers, their target this year is 75 completed scarves for the children of Sabine's Haven Safe House and the new cluster foster care house, both located in Blanco, as well as children identified through George Child Welfare who are in need of care, protection and support.
The handover will take place on Friday 14 June, two days before Youth Day.
The knitting fairies, who are mostly staff, need all the help they can get as the target date is just around the corner and they still need over 30 more scarves.
"We'll be grateful for donations of completed scarves (40 stitches, one metre in length) or donations of wool and knitting needles or cash donations. We'll make the necessary purchases on the donors' behalf. "
