Organiser, Karen Warneke said over 100 tickets were sold to the Hope and Happiness Open Garden Day, which was a first for the George Child Welfare. The money raised is desperately needed for various projects.
It was a heady experience to be carted around from one garden to the next, on a golf cart by officious and gracious volunteers. Discover-ing exotic plants, well landscaped gardens and reveling in the estates’ vistas over water features and the Outeniqua mountains - all added up to a pleasant experience.
Furthermore the balmy sunny weather and delicious cakes served at the Fancourt Clubhouse, served on the terrace, was another treat which should make the Open Gardens a popular annual event.
As always the generous sponsorship for such an event needs public acknowledgement. Warneke thanked the following sponsors - "Roshni from EcoScapes for all the hard work she put in behind the scenes; and to Brian and Welcome (two of her gardeners) who volunteered their Saturday to work as volunteers. Our volunteers who made the difference by their constant support of time, Fancourt Hotel for all their efforts to make our day very special and for the lovely tea and cake; Firstworks and Umlingo, Perfect Water and H2O for water supplied, Sunny Herbs, RNA Distributors, The George Herald and all our Fancourt homeowners for allowing us access to their beautiful gardens.
"We would like to thank all members of the public who joined us on the day and we hope to see you visit us for coffee at the Cinnamon Café at the Child Welfare Offices Cnr of Merriman and Albert Streets. Child and Family Welfare George continue the desire to inspire to bring about change in our community and we can only do this with your support".
The winners of the free raffle are Sandra Van Den Berg, Alba Weldon, Walda Fife and Ali Plumb, who all won super garden hampers sponsored by Agri, BallStraathof, Stark Ayres.
