GEORGE NEWS - A 46-year-old man from the Rosedale informal settlement in Pacaltsdorp was arrested on suspicion of the brutal murder of his girlfriend (29) in the early hours of Friday 16 October.

The incident happened shortly after midnight when the suspect and his girlfriend had an altercation while their 6-year-old boy was in the room with them.

According to Southern Cape police spokesperson, Capt Malcolm Pojie, the couple was fighting when the deceased allegedly stabbed the suspect with a knife.

“According to initial information gathered on the scene, the suspect managed to take the knife from the deceased and then stabbed her several times. She died due to the multiple injuries she sustained. All of this happened in the presence of their young son,” Pojie said.  

Community members alerted the police and the suspect was arrested shortly afterwards with the knife still in his possession.

He will appear in the George Magistrate’s Court on Monday 19 October.
