GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - The wildfire is still active. The affected veld is about 30 years old with inconsistent topography and mostly inaccessible for ground crew. Therefore, a defensive strategy including backburning an 800m x 1 kilometre area will be implemented.
A successful burn out will ensure 90% containment with extensive mopping up to follow thereafter, which is expected to assist with full containment of the wildfire.
Role players include GRDM Fire & Rescue Services, the local farmers, Southern Cape Fire Protection Association and Working on Fire.
