WILDERNESS NEWS - The Wilderness Art Festival is set to make headlines this coming February. The festival, taking place on 14, 15 and 16 February, is a community project aimed at uplifting the art and business community in Wilderness.
To promote the festival, a 3m-high giraffe sculpted out of driftwood, made by Bevan van Druten, is showcased in the lobby of the Wilderness Hotel. Festival organiser Carole Durrant says a drone aerial shot of all the artists on the beach is planned for 28 January.
"The festival offers a range of things to see and do like the Art Walk through town, crafts, food and an art workshop on the green common. There will be live music, children's art activities like fabric and pebble painting as well as chalk art and abstract demos."
Durant has had great success making businesses realise that artists are an untapped resource to attract tourism. Registration takes place at the BCreative Design & Print and at the Cabesa Gallery in the Palms Garden Square.
Registration for artists closes on 25 January, and the cost is a minimal R50 as businesses in Wilderness have sponsored the event.
