Update
GEORGE NEWS - The road works in Caledon Street should be completed by the end of February, according to the George Municipality.
The contractor still needs to complete the kerbs, replace a section of BTB that failed the tests, place the final asphalt layer and remark the road with the required markings.
The sidewalks are going to be totally replaced. All the concrete blocks will be removed, and a new edge strip will be placed as well as an asphalt surface to comply with the accessibility requirements code to which the municipality must comply. Existing paved driveways and existing cast concrete drives will be accommodated.
Pedestrians must make use of the grass verge while the sidewalks are being rebuilt. The sidewalks will be completed by the end of March.
Road users will be notified before any road closures are effected for the asphalt works.
Work on the sidewalks is due to start soon.
Please note that Caledon Street is still a construction site and as such, the road, manholes and kerb levels will still be different. The municipality requests road users to exercise care and caution.
