GEORGE NEWS - University of the 3rd Age George/Wilderness has an interesting programme for the first month of the new year.
On Friday 20 January, U3A will be returning to their old home at Emmaüs in Memorium Street.
Abraham Lincoln
John Myburgh will deliver a lecture titled "Abraham Lincoln - from log cabin to White House".
John Myburgh SC has practised many branches of law for 50 years. He has been a prosecutor, junior and senior advocate, High Court judge and Judge President of the Labour Appeal Court. He has also been a visiting professor of law at Wits University. During his career he has chaired a number of inquiries, including into Regal Bank, Corpcapital, African Bank, the collapse of the Rand, and the corporate governance of the five major banks. When he is not practising law he is a keen amateur historian.
Tea is at 10:00 and the lecture starts at 10:30.
Digiclub focuses on water
On Monday 23 January, the Digiclub will be focusing on the theme of "Water". Visitors are very welcome to attend this meeting for R20 and meet a vibrant and happy group of photographers.

Interpreting art
On Wednesday 25 January, Dr Brendan Cole's talk, "Interpreting works of art – the Renaissance to neo-classicism", will discuss how artistic styles and symbolic elements are used to communicate meaning in paintings produced in the classical tradition from the 16th to 18th centuries.
Brendan Cole is an art historian and artist who specialises in late-nineteenth century non-realist art. He has published widely in international journals and tutored at Oxford University and the Open University before becoming a schoolmaster at Eton.
Tea will be at 10:00 and the lecture will start at 10:30.
